Autoprise was formed in June 2002 when two
companies—Vivonet Inc. and KiT Systems—merged.
The union grew from an initial contact made by
Vivonet CEO, Ryan Volberg to KiT Systems CEO,
Ian McIntosh. Introduced through a common business
acquaintance, it was quickly discovered that the
two companies had many common goals.
The application development philosophies of the
two companies were essentially the same—to
start with a centralized enterprise database schema
and build applications from there. The respective
technologies and applications of the two companies
were highly complementary; Vivonet was strong
in front-end, Internet resilience, thin client
interfaces and POS functionality, while KiT Systems
was strong in solution depth and generic business
objects, such as inventory and accounting. It
was immediately recognized that both companies
could help each other achieve their respective
goals.
Through subsequent brainstorming sessions, a
working chemistry developed between the management
and employees of the respective companies. It
became obvious to the senior management of both
companies that the value a combined company would
bring to its industry would far exceed the summed
value of the independent companies. Moreover,
freed from the constraints of separate agendas,
the combined company could focus its resources
on areas of greatest opportunity, resulting in
maximum value creation for all shareholders.
